Purpose of the Miss United Rodeo Association Pageant
To select a young woman who:
Has the desire to promote and educate the general public about the United Rodeo Association and the sport of rodeo.
Wholesomely represents the western way of life is able to project grace and personality not only when she is speaking to a crowd but when she is horseback as well.
Has the ability to speak knowledgeably about a wide variety of topics including current events and rodeo topics such as its history, rules, facts, and humane treatment of animals.
General Qualifications
Contestants must be at least 17 years of age on or before September 1, 2008 and not older than 24 years of age on September 1, 2008.
Have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent of high school education or a student in good standing.
Contestant must be a single woman and not have been previously nor currently married and/or pregnant nor had a marriage annulled or any minor dependants.
U S citizen and a resident of a state represented by the URA.
Contestants must not have had a queen/princess or similar title removed for any reason, unless petition is approved by the URA board of directors.
Have not been charged with and/or determined to have committed any crime of moral turpitude.
Former Miss URA’s are not eligible for entry.
The Miss URA Pageant reserves the right to refuse any entry.
Entry Information
A non-refundable one hundred dollar ($100.00) entry fee is required to enter. Checks or money orders should be made out to the United Rodeo Association. A returned check may disqualify a contestant.
Entries must be postmarked on or before September 30, 2008. NO Exceptions!!
Contestants will need to submit one color 8.X10 photo. Photo must be current and have a copyright release. Photos are to be of head and shoulder and must include hat and appropriate western attire.
A copy of the contestant’s birth certificate must be sent with entry.
Contestant must return signed waiver of entry.
An entry will not be considered complete without the completed forms, birth certificate, photo, and entry fee.
All expenses including transportation to and from the pageant, hotel, meals (unless provided), etc, are the responsibility of the contestant.
The United Rodeo Association, its officers and members, pageant personnel, and the Midway Center, and its employees are not responsible for accidents, injury, or theft.
By submitting the entry form, waiver, photo and entry fee the contestant is agreeing to abide by rules of the Miss URA Pageant and those of the United Rodeo Association. If a contestant does not comply with these she may risk disqualification and or forfeiture of prizes won. By submitting entry to the URA Pageant contestant gives the Association the right to use photos provided and any taken during events for promotional means before, during and after the contest.
Judging and Scoring Procedures
Contestants in the Miss URA Pageant will receive scores in four categories—Appearance, Horsemanship, Personality, and Knowledge.
Contestants are required to complete all portions of the pageant in order to become eligible for the title of Miss URA and for any prizes or gifts.
Judges will be selected for their background in one or all of the above categories.
Two to four judges will be present at all times and each will score all contestants.
If a tie exists for any award, the score of judge #1 will break the tie. Judges will not know who this is.
If a tie still exists for the overall Miss URA title then the contestant scoring highest in the Horsemanship division will be named the winner. If a tie still exists then the Personality score will be considered, and then the Appearance score, then the Knowledge
ALL DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL
Zeros will not be given except when a contestant does not attempt to, or fails to complete a portion of the competition or if a judge feels that the contestant does not demonstrate knowledge during interviews. Only full or half points will be given.
