Horsemanship will have a pattern, Queen’s Run and Flag Run. Contestant will also be judged during opening ceremonies of the Rodeo.  Contestant will provide their own horse and feed (stalls will be provided). Contestant will use appropriate western tack, tie downs are allowed. Split reins are required. Spurs may be used. Chaps and gloves are not permitted.  Judges and the committee reserve the right to disallow a piece of equipment that they feel is too severe.  The judges and committee members reserve the right to disallow a horse that is unable to be controlled, is obviously lame or for any other reasons that are deemed necessary. Contestant will be asked to dismount to answer questions and do a short interview with the judges after completion of the pattern; she will then remount in the arena.

 

Speech should be informative and inviting to the general public about the United Rodeo Association and their Finals.  This is to be a three minute speech. Time range will be 2:50 to 3:10, any speech not falling in this time frame will  be subject to a 10  point deduction.   Speech is to be memorized and no props are allowed.  Speech should be original and not have been given by any contestant in another pageant.   Speech may be given to the general public.

 

Dress Code

At all times contestants are required to follow the dress code or risk elimination from the competition.  Crowns and banners will not be worn by contestants. At no time will short sleeves or sleeveless blouses be acceptable unless they are being worn under a long sleeved jacket.  Appropriate Arena wear required for all Rodeo performances.  Long sleeves, belts, buckles, hat & western boots are required for all events.  Speech and personal interview contestant may wear their choice of appropriate western attire.  Modeling will require a western dress.  Public appearances should be western attire.

 

Written Test

A written test will be given upon check in.  This will contain questions from the URA rule book, & current newsletter.

Contestant will be provided with hotel rooms on Thursday and Friday nights.  The host hotel for the finals is

Senate Luxury Suites and the phone number is 785-233-1614.  No males allowed in rooms at any time unless related to contestant.

 

Application, entry fee, birth certificate copy, and 8 X 10 color photo must be returned to Clara Glover by Sept 30th, 2008.

 

Tentative Schedule will be as follows details will be updated by Oct 10th, 2008 with a return packet to each contestant.

Check-in will be Thurs morning at 8 am.

Satuday impromptu questions, speech & modeling.

Rodeo performance each evening.

Saturday evening the pageant results will be announced.

Sponsor visits may be both Friday and Saturday.

Parents and public are invited to all events except personal and group interviews

 

 

 

 

 

 

Code of Conduct

If during her reign as Miss URA, the titleholder marries, has a child, becomes pregnant, or for whatever reason is unable to fulfill her duties, the title of Miss URA may go to the next qualified runner-up.  All prizes won may be forfeited to that person at the discretion of the URA Board of Directors.

 

Contestants will behave in a ladylike manner and will refrain from cursing, smoking, chewing tobacco, consuming alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and otherwise behaving in an unsuitable manner while competing in the Miss URA Pageant.  Disqualification may occur for participating in the above activities from the time contestant arrives until the end of the final rodeo performance.

 

Contestants will not slander other contestants, judges, committee members or others involved with the URA or the Miss URA Pageant, or risk elimination at the discretion of the committee, coordinator, and/or judges.

 

Once Miss URA is crowned she becomes a member of the United Rodeo Association and she is expected to follow this code of conduct and that of the Association’s as stated in the URA Rulebook.  She is subject to the same disciplinary action as all other members.  Underage drinking WILL NOT be tolerated by the pageant committee or Association during appearances and may be means for title forfeiture (Appearance is defined as travel to, the entire time spent at and travel from a specific engagement.)

 

Contestants should fully understand the rules and regulations of the Miss URA Pageant before entering.  If a contestant has a question about these rules and regulations then she should contact the pageant coordinator.  Contestants should also fully understand the expectations of the Association.  Again if any questions arise they should be directed to the pageant coordinator.  The titleholder is expected to fully understand what is expected of her in her role as Miss URA.

 

Responsibilities of Miss URA

The reign of Miss URA will begin on Febuary 1st and continue until the following January 31st. 

 

As the official ambassador of the United Rodeo Association the titleholder will represent the URA at various functions throughout her reign.  These appearances may include but are not limited to rodeos, parades, radio, television, newspaper interviews, school visits, nursing home visits, sponsor visits, and public appearances at a variety of events.   The Miss URA Pageant Coordinator will determine the appropriateness of an appearance.

 

When making appearances as Miss URA the URA crown and banner will be worn at all times.  She will not wear the crown or banner of another title without the prior approval of the Miss URA Pageant Coordinator.

 

Miss URA is expected to dress in appropriate western wear when making public appearances.  Short sleeves, sleeveless blouses, etc. will not be worn unless they are being worn under an appropriate long-sleeved jacket.  During casual times the titleholder will dress in an appropriate manner and avoid inappropriate shorts, halter tops, etc.  If questions arise as to the appropriateness of dress then the Miss URA Coordinator should be contacted.

 

Miss URA will be responsible for providing a horse to use during her reign.  When using her own horse for appearances it is expected that attention be paid to detail concerning the grooming of the horse and cleanliness of her tack.  It is expected that Miss URA use the saddle that was provided in her prize package.  Her horse is expected to be in good condition, safe around crowds and to look like a horse that is fit to carry a queen.  A horse that is arena sour is not an appropriate choice.

 

Miss URA will make a monthly report to the URA board of Directors and general membership that is to be published each month in the URA newsletter. This report should be submitted to the URA Secretary by the 10th of every month.  This report should be about the activities that Miss URA is participating in to promote the Association.  This report may be edited by the URA Secretary for content and space.  This report must be typed by the titleholder.

 

Miss URA will make monthly contact with the Miss URA Pageant Coordinator by phone or email. 

 

The majority of expenses for travel to and from appearances will be the responsibility of Miss URA.  Rodeo committees who request appearances from Miss URA are required to pay a $50.00 appearance fee, and to provide lodging and meals during her stay.   Miss URA will not ask a rodeo committee for more money for an appearance than set by the Miss URA committee.

 

The titleholder is expected to keep a record of the contacts she makes throughout her reign and to report these to the pageant coordinator.  She should make copies of articles pertaining to her reign and pictures of appearances for the pageant scrapbook.

 

The titleholder may not enter any other rodeo queen pageant during her reign as Miss URA except with approval from the Miss URA Pageant Coordinator.  This includes a state Miss Rodeo title.  If you are already a titleholder for another rodeo, association, etc. and decide to compete for this title, please fully discuss the situation you will be in if you win the Miss URA title with both pageant coordinators.  The Miss URA title is your main priority and you will be expected to give your time and energy to this title.

 

 

 

Sponsorships

The titleholder may secure sponsorships during her reign but these sponsorships must have the approval of the Miss URA Coordinator and may not take precedence over the Association sponsorships.

 

Appearances

Miss URA will make appearances at a number of URA sanctioned rodeos during her reign.  Her schedule will be coordinated by the pageant coordinator.  The titleholder will be provided a list of dates with contact names and phone numbers that have been approved and arranged by the coordinator.   Pageant coordinator will go over arrival time and event schedule with the committee and titleholder.  At the beginning of her reign the titleholder and pageant coordinator will discuss any dates she may not be able to make appearances on.  If there are additional appearances she would like to make perhaps to a local URA rodeo, visits to local schools, etc., she should inform the pageant coordinator so arrangements can be made. 

 

Promotional Materials

Following her selection as Miss URA the titleholder should schedule a photo shoot with a qualified photographer to take promotional photos.  All photographs will be taken in Western dress including hat and crown.  The banner is optional if the photo is a close head and shoulder pose.  Full length photos should include the banner for identification purposes.  NO hand should be touching the hat nor should the photographs be glamour style.  The titleholder should present a friendly, welcoming appearance in her photograph.  She will present photographs to the URA queen coordinator for final approval.  Title holder should expect to sign an estimated 1000 autograph sheets during her reign.  Guidelines for Autograph sheets are:  Photo may be black or white

                  8 x 10 or 5 x7 may be used

Information must include titleholder name, Miss URA 2009,    approved sponsors of the URA, and URA website.  No other information will be added without approval from URA coordinator.  URA coordinator will approve final layout & photographs.

The titleholder may want to have a few business cards, this will be done through the URA Secretary and URA coordinator.

The titleholder should have a pleasant, professional message on the phone she uses to conduct her Miss URA business.

 

Chaperone

Miss URA will travel often during her reign.  She is expected to behave in a mature, adult, lady like manner during her reign.  She is expected to take care of problems that occur and take care for her horse.  Miss URA is expected to travel with an older adult, such as her mother or father. There will be times in which the titleholder will be making appearances and will need help. 

 

The titleholder must keep in mind that she is being watched at all times by the URA directors, members, and rodeo committee members.  She must behave in a respectable manner or risk discipline by the Miss URA committee.  Titleholder will be asked to sign a contract.
